The company operated 24 hours a day, but it was at night that it was most active. It was said that unnatural things went on in the place, and it was often blamed for the unusual number of people who disappeared from the town. In 1926, after the strange disappearance of both Grimsby and Streaper, the company ceased operations. The building was boarded up and fenced in. Over the years, new shops and stores were built in front of it and it was mostly forgotten. In 1991, Ripley's acquired the property and demolished the buildings that had been built in front of it.
